What is the Gantt Chart Timeline View?

The Gantt Chart Timeline View in Trovve gives you a clear, interactive way to plan and manage projects visually. It combines a task grid and a timeline so you can see tasks, dependencies, and progress all in one place. Use it to adjust schedules, track progress, identify delays, and visualize your entire project from start to finish.

Accessing Timeline View

  1. Go to Projects from the main menu
  2. Select a project and switch to Full-Screen View
  3. Click the Timeline tab at the top

You'll see the Gantt chart, with a grid on the left and a timeline on the right.

Understanding the Layout

Header

  • Project Name and Progress Indicator
  • Date Range (Start–End)
  • Search Bar to find tasks quickly
  • Settings and View Toggle icons

Toolbar

  • New Item: Create a task
  • Manage Sections: Add or reorder task groups
  • Critical Path: Highlight tasks that impact project deadlines
  • Zoom Controls: Switch between Day, Week, 2 Weeks, Month, or Quarter

Working with Tasks

Grid Section

Shows Task Name, Assignee, Start & Due Dates, Progress, and Duration.

  • Click a task name to open its details
  • Drag the divider to resize the grid and timeline sections

Timeline Chart

Each task shows:

  • A colored bar for duration, Assignee photo and name & Progress % inside the bar

What you can do:

  • Drag bars to move or reschedule tasks
  • Drag edges to change duration
  • Right-click for quick actions like Add Dependency, Add to My Day, or Delete

Managing Dependencies

Create task dependencies in three ways:

  1. Drag connection dots between task bars
  2. Right-click a task and choose Task starting next
  3. Open the Task Form and select a Parent Task

What happens:

  • Dependencies update automatically when dates change
  • Trovve prevents circular dependencies and warns about conflicts

Using Critical Path

The Critical Path shows the longest chain of dependent tasks that determine the project's end date.

How to Use

  1. Click Critical Path in the toolbar
  2. Critical tasks highlight in color; non-critical ones dim
  3. Click again to turn off

This helps identify tasks that can't be delayed.
